Biography

Lucas Grabeel was born on November 23, 1984 to Stephen and Jean Grabeel in Springfield, Missouri.  He has an older sister, Autumn. He was always interested in performing and even at a very young age, he and his sister would entertain their parents and friends with short skits, commercials and plays. School was always important to Lucas.  He attended Logan-Rogersville Elementary and Middle Schools (Rogersville High School), and then Kickapoo High School in Springfield, Missouri – as well as attending the Missouri Fine Arts Academy. In school he was a very good speaker on his feet and took 5th place in the MSHSAA Speech & Debate Championships in 2003.  He also participated in all of the school’s theatrical productions – beginning with his sixth grade performance in The Secret Garden.  He was in eight different school productions before graduating.  In addition, he was also involved with the Y.E.S. Troup in his area.

He is perhaps best known for his role as Ryan Evans in the Disney Channel Original Movie High School Musical and its sequel High School Musical 2 and as Ethan Dalloway in the third and fourth installments of Halloweentown – Halloweentown High and Return to Halloweentown.

After graduating from Kickapoo High School in Springfield, Missouri, he moved to Los Angeles in 2003 to further pursue a career in the world of entertainment.  It did not take him long and he quickly (three weeks) received his first gig doing commercials.  The story goes that his manager discovered him while he was standing in line to purchase a smoothie at a local mall. By 2004, he had already landed his first television role in the made-for-TV Disney movie Halloweentown High.

His breakthrough performance was in the blockbuster made- for television Disney movie, High School Musical as Ryan Evans, in which he sang two duet songs with Ashley Tisdale — “What I’ve Been Looking For” and “Bop to the Top”. He also sang with Drew Seeley, Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale in “I Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You” which was not in the movie, but was an extra track on the soundtrack. Lucas is a great tenor.

Grabeel has made TV guest appearances on TV series such as Boston Legal, Smallville, Til Death, and Veronica Mars. He also participated in the first ever Disney Channel Games on the green team. Lucas also reprised his role as Ethan Dalloway in the fourth Halloweentown movie, “Return to Halloweentown”. On Thanksgiving Day 2006, he was featured on a High School Musical float alongside co-stars Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu, and Monique Coleman singing the number “We’re All in This Together”, both Lucas and Corbin splitting half of Zac Efron’s (Troy) lines from the song. Lucas Grabeel also sang the same song, at the 2006 Miss Teen USA pageant, singing the chorus while the contestants introduced themselves.

Lucas recently filmed the movie Alice, as the character of Lester McKinley, which is an independent film based off the “Alice” book series by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor. It is expected to release in selected theaters in spring 2008. He also recorded the voice of a dog in the upcoming animated film, At Jesus’ Side. In January 2007, he finished touring on the High School Musical: The Concert. Lucas also recorded “You Know I Will” for The Fox and the Hound 2. On April 13, 2007, Lucas finished production on High School Musical 2, in which he returned as Ryan Evans. This premiered on the Disney Channel on August 17, 2007. He had duets with Tisdale as in the original movie, but also had a “show stopper” song with Corbin Bleu (as Chad) in “I Don’t Dance”. Lucas also recorded “Go The Distance” for the CD Disneymania 5. He will also be starring as Ezra in The Adventures of Food Boy and as Daniel Beawuxhomme in Once On This Island.

Lucas released a single named “You Got It” and surfaced the net. The song was also used in a scene in High School Musical 2, when Sharpay and Ryan are entering the country club. You Got It was released to iTunes in September 2007.The music video of the said song, made by Grabeel and his friends Mike and Marc, was also released October 31 to iTunes. He and Corbin Bleu are the only two High School Musical stars who haven’t been on The Suite Life Of Zack and Cody. In June 2007, he appeared on the green team again from the Disney Channel Games.
